An alleged photo of the Samsung Galaxy S5 box reveals the specs

The evidence that the Galaxy S5 will be unveiled at the MWC is mounting fast – now there's an alleged photo of the box the new flagship will come in. Samsung boxes feature key specs on the back and an anonymous tipster claims to have snapped a photo of the Galaxy S5 package.

The specs listed align with previous rumors. The chipset has a quad-core CPU at 2.5GHz and LTE Cat. 4 (150Mbps downlink). This is certainly a Snapdragon chipset and we're possibly looking at the Snapdragon 800 8974AC variety, which packs Krait 400 at 2.46GHz. The box also promises 3GB RAM, same as the Galaxy Note 3 (as can be expected).

Moving on, the screen is listed as 5.25" QHD (2,560 x 1,600), which is precisely what the latest rumors have been saying. That would push the pixel density to 560ppi, but keep in mind this is likely a PenTile Super AMOLED, so it should have a noticeable visual improvement over the current 5" 440ppi screen.

Same goes for the camera - a 20MP shooter, which is in line with the leaked 16MP photo that had 16:9 aspect ratio (20MP is at 4:3). Strangely, the video capture is just 1080p, we were expecting UHD like the Galaxy Note 3.

The final bit of specifications that the box reveals is Android 4.4 KitKat (no surprise here) and a 3,000mAh battery. There's not a peep about the body material (metal or plastic?).

Keep in mind that this box could have been Photoshopped, but nothing it shows is particularly surprising (perhaps aside from the video capture). Samsung's New TouchWiz UI

Word on the street has it that Samsung's upcoming Unpacked event will be modest in contrast with the fanfare we witnessed last year. This doesn't mean, however, that the show would not be worth watching. After all, that's when Samsung is expected to announce its Galaxy S5 smartphone, along with the new and improved TouchWiz user interface. The latter is believed to be simpler and less flashy compared to previous TouchWiz iterations, as suggested by those leaked screenshots and the look of the redesigned S Health app. Also, the next TouchWiz UI will be flatter. Much flatter – perhaps about as flat as those icons in the image above. 

The image was posted on Twitter by Samsung about an hour ago, so we know that what we're seeing is legitimate. And if our intuition is to be trusted, this could very well be a teaser exposing the design and features of the new TouchWiz user interface. The UI will be focused on speed, style, fun, privacy, heath, and much more, judging by the clues, so we should be expecting the next TouchWiz to be no less feature-rich than its previous versions. 

The highly-anticipated Samsung Unpacked event is scheduled for February 24, and from the looks of it, a livestream of it will be available via YouTube.

Apple seeks ban on Samsung phones, tablets in the US

Apple has asked a federal judge to bar US sales of Samsung smartphones and tablet computers in the blockbuster patent case involving the two electronics giants.
In a court filing in California, Apple said the smartphones and tablets were found to have violated patents in a jury trial held last year.
Apple renewed its bid for a permanent injunction on sales of a number of Samsung products after an appeals court decision last month cleared the way for a new hearing on the matter.

In the latest filing dated Thursday, Apple's attorneys wrote that the court "previously concluded that Samsung's sale of infringing products has irreparably harmed Apple."

The document added that the appeals court decision "makes clear that the record evidence collectively demonstrates a sufficient 'causal nexus' between Samsung's infringement and the irreparable harm to Apple."
Apple added that "money damages are not an adequate remedy for Samsung's infringement of these patents."
The US firm is seeking a ban on Samsung's smartphone models Captivate, Continuum, Droid Charge, Epic 4G, Exhibit 4G, Fascinate, Galaxy Ace, Galaxy Prevail, Galaxy S, Galaxy S 4G, Gem, Indulge, Infuse, Mesmerize, Nexus S 4G, Replenish, Vibrant,Transform and three versions of the Galaxy S II.
Bans are also being sought on the Galaxy Tab and Tab 10.1 tablets.
The request does not affect the newest Samsung devices, which were not at issue in the trial because of the fast product cycles in the industry.
The South Korean firm, the world's biggest maker of smartphones, has been ordered to pay Apple more than $900 million after a retrial on some of the issues in the case.

8.4-inch Samsung tablet found on FCC site, believed to be Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4

One of the easiest ways to confirm whether or not a rumored device is legit is to see if it has passed through the FCC certification process, and judging on the info found on the FCC site, Samsung has a new tablet in the works with model number SM-T320.
Information from other sources corroborates that and even gives us its screen size – the odd 8.4 inches. Rumors say that this device would go by the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 moniker, but that’s hardly confirmed.
What today’s FCC leak confirms, however, is the existence of the device plus the usual tidbits about the tablet having Bluetooth, as well as Wi-Fi connectivity. Yup, that’s hardly much at all. But it gets more interesting.
Th thing is that the mentioned model designation SM-T320 can also be found in a recent cargo shipment report, which tells us a bit more – such as the screen size of this Galaxy tab device. The report clearly says that three units of this model were shipped from South Korea on December 23rd for “testing & evaluation purpose” and that that screen size of the tablet is “8:4″.
This gives new life to previous rumors that Samsung is working on a tablet, which should be called Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4.
We don’t have any further info, but we’ll be reporting live any product announcements that Samsung might have at CES next month so stay tuned. The event starts on January 7th.

SAMSUNG ANDROID FLIP PHONE

Samsung is looking to bring the flip phone back. The new smartphone reportedly has a powerful quad-core 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, and dual Super AMOLED screens to boot.

The upcoming Samsung SM-W2014 will aim to build on the company's recent success with large-screened clamshell devices in the Chinese market and it is is by far the most impressive specs-wise.

The resolution of each screen will be fairly meager at 800 x 480 pixels, but there are two of them, after all. Both will come in at 3.67", and there'll be 2GB of RAM to boot.

A 13MP primary shooter with 2MP front-facer complete the camera department, while connectivity includes WiFi a/b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth 4.0. The smartphone is set to come with Android 4.3 out of box.

Measurements come in at 116.85 x 59.4 x 15.79mm, which equates to a thickness of just under 8mm when opened.

Samsung said to release the Galaxy S5 in January

• According to Korean media outlets citing sources inside Samsung, the Galaxy S5 will see its official announcement in January next year. The earlier than expected release is dictated by the disappointing sales of the Galaxy S4.

It appears that despite the excellent sales performance of the flagship, Samsung is still not really pleased and think it could've done better. As a result, the company is pushing the Galaxy S5 release to mid-January, instead of March as was the case this year and May as it was in 2012.

The actual market availability of the next Samsung flagship is tipped for February, which makes sense if the actual announcement is pulled for the start of the year.

As far as actual specifications of the Galaxy S5 are concerned, Samsung is expected to debut its64-bitExynos 5430 chip, which will feature 8 cores with Heterogeneous Multi-Processing capabilities

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is tipped to boast an updated 16MP camera with enhanced low-light performance and optical image stabilization. Earlier, the company unveiled its ISOCELL image sensor, which is expected to debut on the upcoming flaghip.

All of the information above is nothing more than speculation and hasn't been confirmed by Samsung in any way. However, given that Samsung has pushed its last flagship 10 months after its predecessor, it won't be a surprise if we get another update just as quickly.
