Apple seeks ban on Samsung phones, tablets in the US

Apple has asked a federal judge to bar US sales of Samsung smartphones and tablet computers in the blockbuster patent case involving the two electronics giants.
In a court filing in California, Apple said the smartphones and tablets were found to have violated patents in a jury trial held last year.
Apple renewed its bid for a permanent injunction on sales of a number of Samsung products after an appeals court decision last month cleared the way for a new hearing on the matter.

In the latest filing dated Thursday, Apple's attorneys wrote that the court "previously concluded that Samsung's sale of infringing products has irreparably harmed Apple."

The document added that the appeals court decision "makes clear that the record evidence collectively demonstrates a sufficient 'causal nexus' between Samsung's infringement and the irreparable harm to Apple."
Apple added that "money damages are not an adequate remedy for Samsung's infringement of these patents."
The US firm is seeking a ban on Samsung's smartphone models Captivate, Continuum, Droid Charge, Epic 4G, Exhibit 4G, Fascinate, Galaxy Ace, Galaxy Prevail, Galaxy S, Galaxy S 4G, Gem, Indulge, Infuse, Mesmerize, Nexus S 4G, Replenish, Vibrant,Transform and three versions of the Galaxy S II.
Bans are also being sought on the Galaxy Tab and Tab 10.1 tablets.
The request does not affect the newest Samsung devices, which were not at issue in the trial because of the fast product cycles in the industry.
The South Korean firm, the world's biggest maker of smartphones, has been ordered to pay Apple more than $900 million after a retrial on some of the issues in the case.

How to jailbreak iOS 7

Step 1

We absolutely recommend you backup your device with iTunes/iCloud before you give this a go. This way, if something goes wrong, or you wish to remove the exploit, you can do so easily and without any loss-of-data hassles.

Step 2

All backed up? Good! Now ensure that your iOS version is actually crackable by going to Settings > General > About > Version. The current exploit only works for iPhone, iPad and iPod devices running iOS 7.0 through 7.0.4. 

Step 3

If you have used an OTA (Over The Air) update in the past, the developer team recommends you .   use itunes to revert back to iOS 7.0.4 to avoid complications. Save yourself the a potential headache and do it.

Step 4

Disable your passcode if you have one in place, as this is known to cause issues. Go to Settings > General > Touch ID & Passcode > Turn Passcode Off.

Step 5

Download evasi0n 7 for Mac (10.6 minimum!) or Windows (XP minimum!). Once installed, just extract the executable file from the archive and power it on. We assume that your device is already plugged to the computer, as you didn't forget to back it up via iTunes. If so, the small program will detect your device and list it as supported. Click the 'Jailbreak' button and do not interact with your device or iTunes in any way until prompted (at about 60% of the progress bar). You'll be then asked to unlock your iOS 7 device and tap the 'evasi0n 7' icon. Go ahead and do as instructed. The process will then continue, and you'll be asked once again to unlock your device.

Step 6

Once the process is done, navigate to the second homescreen and launch the 'Cydia' app. Don't touch your device while it prepares your file system. It'll take a short while, and your device will then restart. Voila! You're now officially jailbroken. 

Step 7 

The Cydia store will ask you for an upgrade, go ahead and opt for the complete update. Do keep in mind that the alternative store is still stuck in the . .   iOS era, so it'll clash with your UI visually. Updates to Cydia, along with a bunch of other jailbreaking essentials are expected to come soon, though there's obviously no specific date.

That's it, folks, enjoy your freshly jailbroken iOS 7 device. If your device becomes unresponsive during the process itself, you can just put your device in 'DFU' mode (Device Firmware Upgrade) and restore it. Apple working on a 12.9 inch tablet for October 2014 release?

A published report on Monday, citing the upstream supply chain, says that Apple is going to release a large screened tablet next October. The slate is rumored to have a screen of 12.9 inches and matches other rumors about a 12.9 inch iPad. According to the report, Apple's large tablet will be aimed at the education market. The report adds that Quanta Computer will be building the slate, and that Apple decided to go with a 12.9 inch screen after testing that size along with a 13.3 inch panel.

Besides offering a large screened tablet, Apple is said to be working on a large-sized version of the Apple iPhone. The device is expected to be launched in May of 2014 and will be powered by a TSMC processor produced using the 20nm process. Last week, we passed along a report that claimed Apple had locked up TSMC to be the main supplier of its next A-series processor for the Apple iPhone. 

This chip also might find its way into the 12.9 inch tablet, which speculation has replacing the MacBook Air in Apple's lineup.
