App to share Internet from PC to Android phone?

If you are using Windows 7 PC, then follow the below steps to share internet with your Mobile.
1. Visit Network Settings on Control Panel
2. Click set up a Connection or Network
3. Click and Select Set up Wireless Ad hoc (Computer to Computer Network)
4. Enter details on Window (Give Name and Security options)
5. Select Save this Network option and Click OK or Next
6. Refresh the Network Connections tab for newly created Network to appear
7. Select and Edit for Local Area Connection Properties
8. On sharing tab, Check both the options and Apply, OK
9. Try searching for a WiFi on your mobile.
10.Enter Security PIN created and connect to the network.

When it comes to transferring files to your android device USB is the most commonly used medium. But there is a better way and it requires nothing more than your existing Wi-Fi network and a free utility to create a seamless, high data rate connection to your android device using AirDroid.

With the AirDroid application users can sync almost any type of file between devices at just a click of a button. All you need is a Wi-Fi network connecting to your computer and your Android device.

So here is how to wirelessly transfer files to your Android device using AirDroid.

Step 1

On your android device and search the Play Store for the AirDroid application and install the application on your android device.

Once installed, start the application on your android device. It might take a little time during the first start. Once the application starts navigate to the user icon placed on the top right hand side of the app to enter your details.

Step 3

You can register with the service using your e-mail address, or through your Facebook user ID as well. Enter the details to proceed.

Step 4

On your desktop or laptop computer navigate to ‘web.airdroid.com’ using any available web browser. It will ask you for your login details.

Step 5

Enter the login details similar to the application. Once the login is successful it will proceed to the home screen. On this page you will find the default desktop of the AirDroid application

Step 6

The desktop has a handy widget that shows how much space is there on your device along with the name of the device. From the desktop select the files icon to transfer files to and from the device.

Step 7

The application works quite similar to Windows and shows files and folders in similar fashion. To be able to upload files select the upload key placed on the extreme right side of the folder.

Step 8

You can either choose to drag and drop the required file or can also upload whole folders through manual selection.

Step 9

To download any file or folder from your android device simply right click on the file or folder and select ‘Download as Zip’.

Although AirDroid is not as fast as a USB connections, still it is better than USB in many ways as it completely wireless and relies on home or office Wi-Fi network only. Using it you can also access pictures, messages, videos and even install applications in similar way.

Updated Hangouts app for Android brings SMS/MMS support

Google has updated the Android version of the Hangouts application with several new features. As we have seen on the Nexus 5, the Hangouts app now supports SMS and MMS, which means you can send and receive text messages from within Hangouts and they will appear along with your Hangouts chats. Unlike the Nexus 5, however, you can disable the SMS/MMS functionality if you want and continue using the stock messaging app on your phone

Another addition is the ability to set your mood. You can now choose from one of the Hangouts emoji as your mood that gets displayed to anyone who messages you. You can also choose to announce the device type you are messaging from (phone or PC) or whether you’re in a call. Lastly, you can now also insert your location and animated GIFs in a chat.

The iOS version of Hangouts has also been updated but it lacks the SMS/MMS functionality and ability to insert location but gets the other features such as moods and sharing device type.

How to enable remote lock on your Android device

Smartphones that we use are always filled with personal and sometimes confidential data that we would certainly not like anyone to have a glimpse to. But losing a smartphone is something no one has control on. And once it’s gone we have no control over the data we had stored on it. Well, in the past it would have been correct but not now, as Google has integrated remote control functionality in Android which is available to all, and that too for free.

With the use of this functionality, you can locate your device and if that is not possible you can be sure that your data is safe as you can wipe your device remotely. Read on to know how to do it.

*Please note that this only works with android version 4.0 and later versions.

Step 1

On your Android device access the Applications home and locate ‘Google Settings’ application and access it to proceed further

Step 2

The device will then open up the linked settings tab. Here all the settings related to the device’s Google / Google+ account can be located and tweaked. From the given options find the “Android Device Manager” option and access it to continue.

Step 3

The Android device manager control allows users to remotely control devices. Here you will find two main options. From the two options select “Allow Remote lock and Factory reset” option to continue.

Step 4

The device will give you a prompt as to enable Android device manager functionality as a device administrator. It needs that access to be able to control the device on remote commands, which would in turn be coming from the users using a remote web based tool. Press ‘Activate’ to finalize setup

Step 5

Now you can access your device through the Android device manager, web interface: accessible at https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager

Step 6

You can simply select your device and select the option to lock the device remotely, or to remotely wipe it as well, if, unfortunately, you lose your device.
