UPCOMING FEATURES OF FIREFOX OS

Unless you spent the last two years living under a rock, you surely know about Firefox OS. If so then you also know that the development of Mozilla’s Mobile Operating System is on fire. The team is doing their best to deliver the best user experience for users, People using the devices have seen some of the most needed features so far such as importing contacts from Gmail, Outlook, Facebook and even the SD card. So don’t worry Android fans, your contacts won’t be lost.
Upcoming features for Firefox OS - Are You Ready to Switch?
Performance is also an important thing to put in mind for developers while making the OS more and more ‘fun’. And here too, devices’ users are noticing the performance that is getting better and better.
After all, we have to face it: THIS IS NOT ENOUGH.
Yup having these features (you know what features, you tested Firefox OS, right ? right ?) is not enough. But don’t worry there are hundreds and hundreds of new cool stuff coming to Firefox OS and right now they are being worked on. I’ll resume some of the Upcoming features for Firefox OS for you.
  • Homescreen Open Search
Something that you can’t find on Android, is searching for everything, and I mean everything on the device, Apps, files, songs, videos etc.. from your homescreen. If what you are looking for doesn’t exist on your device, you’ll get results from the web, from all across the web in a handy and stylish way (’cause nobody wants 30 million result on their phone), also on top of the search results you’ll see web apps that are dedicated to give content related to the search terms you were looking for, also the apps are from all across the web. If you have a website speaking about Eminem, it will come up when anybody searches for Eminem from their lil shiny Firefox OS device.
  • Replaceable homescreens, In other words: launchers
You’ve probably heard about GO Launcher for Android right ? Well the same concept of changing your default homescreen with a custom one that your favorite developer or company developed it for you. The feature is also being worked on as you read this.
  • 3rd party keyboards
Swipe keyboard, Hacker’s Keyboard, SwiftKey and all those Android keyboards that you get from the play store. They are called 3rd part keyboards, well this week, this feature has landed at Firefox OS, using the latest available versions will make it possible for you to test any user-developed keyboard.
  • Chromecast support
Chromecast, it’s been about a month since Google released it, the little device in the size of a flash disk that you plugin in into your TV and then you can stream to it (your TV) any type of media from your PC, Android, iPhone, Mac or any ‘smart’ device. Chromecast support is soon coming to Firefox, so you can stream videos from Firefox itself, and the good news is, it is possible to use it on Firefox OS too, so expect this feature soon too.
  • Wide RTL support
For those who use right to left languages (such as Arabic) if you’ve tried Firefox OS with your RTL language, it’s no doubt a little bit very messy, me and some other Firefox OS developers are working on this. So don’t worry. The upcoming versions of Firefox OS WILL fully support.
